In 1962, Yuri Soloviev founded the All-Union Institute of Technical Aesthetics (VNIITE) and was its director until 1987. Soloviev was the chief editor of the Technical Aesthetics magazine published by VNIITE. He initiated exhibitions both of foreign design in the USSR and of Soviet design abroad.
