CONSUMER DREAM

20.12.2017 — 25.02.2018
Location: Boris Yeltsin Presidential Center, Ekaterinburg

Organised by: Moscow Design Museum, Boris Yeltsin Presidential Center, Multimedia Art Museum

The exhibition is a retrospective journey and a research into the relationship between deficit and advertising in USSR and Russia covering the period from the early 1920’s to the mid-1990’s.

In the USSR, to obtain the object you dream about it was not enough just to work and earn money. To achieve the "dream" you had to exchange galoshes for textile, textile for a vacuum cleaner, then all this was exchanged for scarce books and theater tickets, eventually giving you a chance to get a refrigerator or a car.

The exhibition showcases advertising posters, packaging, furniture, clothes, and consumer electronics from the Moscow Design Museum collection.
