The exhibition is a retrospective journey and a research into the relationship between deficit and advertising in USSR and Russia covering the period from the early 1920’s to the mid-1990’s.

In the early 1960s, a network of research institutes was established across the country. Each of them was subordinate to a certain ministry and was responsible for the development and and implementation of art and design projects in a single region of the USSR.

The exhibition is dedicated to one of the most outstanding art phenomena of the 20th century. During its first decade, Soviet Russia, a young revolutionary state, needed its own visual language. A new artistic movement was born from this dynamic and was named Constructivism. 

The first exhibition in the history of modern Russia, where the best examples of Russian design from 3 most important periods of its history - constructivism (1917 - 1935), socialism (1950-1980) and modernity (1990 - 2017) - will be displayed side by side.
